SPS Community Notice // February 2024

Dear SPS Community,

I hope that you had a safe and enjoyable winter break. This week we leap into a new month. This correction to the calendar comes every four years as a way of accounting for the impact of the Earth’s non-circular orbit. The last leap year was 2020, the year of the pandemic. The pandemic impacted all of us in ways that pushed us out of orbit. Thankfully, this leap year finds us on a more predictable course.

March is a powerful month. Students are able to move through their instructional day with greater confidence and independence. Educators know their students and have formed trusting relationships that allow them to challenge students to step out of their comfort zones. With four uninterrupted weeks of learning, there is a chance to go deeper and explore new concepts. Families are encouraged to take advantage of the March conference window to check-in with teachers about their students’ growth and goals.

A couple of reminders:

  • The last day of school is now June 13. Schools will follow the early release schedules.

  • Kindergarten registration is open. Tonight from 4 pm to 6 pm we are hosting drop-in registration at the School Department, Second Floor, 40 Fairbank Road. A second registration will also be held on March 12th from 4pm to 6 pm.

  • Grades 5 to 6 Transition Meeting for Families will take place on Thursday, February 29th. Special Education Transition Meeting @ 6 pm and General Education Transition @ 7 pm.

  • Early Release for Family/Teacher Conferences, March 6, 13, and 20.

And in closing, a very special invitation to “Harmony & Spice.” Come celebrate and learn about the cultural influences of music and food representing cultures of the African Diaspora. Sponsored by Sudbury Public Schools METCO Program and the Boston Bridges Initiative, this event will include a light buffet supper and entertainment. Respectfully yours,
