August 29, 2023 // Welcome Back!

End of Summer Greetings!

I wanted to welcome you to the new school year starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30! Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be full school days for grades 1-8. Kindergarten families will follow the welcome schedule previously sent out by the buildings. As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, September 4th, in observance of Labor Day. All students, Pre-kindergarten through grade 8, will attend on Tuesday, September 5th. The elementary school day runs from 7:55 am to 2:25 pm, and the middle school day runs from 8:20 am to 3:10 pm. The preschool morning session is from 8:00 am to 10:30 am, and the afternoon session is from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.

We have been working hard over the summer to prepare for the return of our students. The facilities staff and the custodians have done amazing work to restore and improve our buildings in anticipation of the happy moment when students will once again fill the halls. Members of the teaching staff have engaged in professional development to hone their skills and add new dimensions to the curriculum. We are ready!

Please note that our community partners have also worked hard to repave streets throughout Sudbury. The weather has impacted the marking of crosswalks and pavement markers. Please discuss with your students the safest routes for pedestrians and bike riders and reinforce the need to take extra care when crossing roadways without pavement markers in place.

Here is a link to the School Year Calendar. Also, please note the Fall Open Houses Dates. More information will be forthcoming from each individual school.

Curtis - September 27 (7th & 8th grade) and September 28 (6th grade)

Haynes - September 21

Loring - September 14

Nixon - September 19

Noyes - September 20

“Back to School” packets are now available in the ASPEN Family Portal. Please log-in and complete these forms as soon as possible, as the packet contains important transportation and emergency information. Information about how to complete the packets is linked here.

Bus passes for Curtis and the elementary students were mailed out last week. No student will be refused a ride if they do not have their passes in the first two weeks of school. The bus routes are posted on the SPS website, with approximate pick-up times listed. Please note that routes are often longer at the start of the school year as everyone adjusts to their new routines.

On behalf of myself and the Staff of SPS, I want to welcome you to another year of learning!
