March 10, 2023 // Haynes Principal Update and Community Budget Forums
Dear SPS Families and Staff,
As we get ready to spring ahead on Sunday for daylight savings time, I want to share updates on the Haynes Principal search and the SPS budgetary process.
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Bryant Amitrano has accepted the position of Haynes Principal. Mr. Amitrano currently serves as the Interim Principal at Merriam Elementary School, a project-based looping school in Acton. Prior to his position as Interim Principal, Mr. Amitrano served as the Assistant Principal at Merriam, beginning in 2018. During his time at Merriam, Mr. Amitrano has been a member of a district-wide STEAM committee which works on developing a STEAM vision for the district. Bryant taught fifth and sixth grade at the Healey School in Somerville before receiving his CAGS in School Administration and becoming the Interim Assistant Principal at Healey in 2017. Mr. Amitrano brings experience, enthusiasm, and a child-focused commitment to his work, and I am confident that he will be a valuable addition to the Haynes and Sudbury communities.
This week I and other district administrators had the opportunity to discuss the SPS budget and upcoming Override vote at a community forum, Parent Information Exchange (PIE) and two PTO meetings. In the next couple weeks there will be more opportunities to continue the conversation:
-
Community Forum: Monday, March 13, 7-9 PM @ ECMS auditorium
-
Nixon PTO: Tuesday, March 14, 7:30 PM, virtual
-
SEPAC: Wednesday, March 15, 7 PM, virtual

-
Loring PTO: Tuesday, March 21, 7:30 PM, virtual

I encourage you to attend as you are able as this is a critical moment for our community as we make decisions about how to best support our students as we address current needs and lingering impacts of the pandemic on academic achievement and mental and behavioral health. Additional information regarding the budget can be found on the SPS website.
As we spring ahead, I hope you will join me in welcoming Mr. Amitrano and planning for a supportive educational environment.
Sincerely,
Brad Crozier, Superintendent
