Dear Sudbury Community Members,

We are shocked and heartbroken for the children and staff in Uvalde, Texas. The senseless and tragic loss of youngsters in a school shooting is beyond comprehension. Our condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy.

We will continue to prioritize our students’ social and emotional health and well-being, and we will maintain a high level of school safety preparedness across the district. During this difficult time, we would like to offer some resources to assist families and educators with this horrific news.

Please refer to the American Psychological Association guidance for useful and practical help and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) to access resources on Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers provided by the NASP. We also have many resources that have been curated locally by our mental health team.

Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. Our schools’ Resource Officers and other public safety officers will be present at our buildings in the coming days to support families and staff. Counselors, social workers, and psychologists are available in our schools to provide support to students, staff, and families as needed. Do not hesitate to reach out to any member of your student’s school community for support.
