Return to Headlines

July 30, 2021 // Superintendent's Update

Dear SPS Families and Staff,

The summer has been a great change from last school year. The SMILE summer program has just one more week, and our attention is turning fully to the fall return of students. We recently reviewed information from the CDC about school reopenings this fall and thought it would be reassuring for you to know our current thinking. The document highlights the need for students to return to full-time in-person instruction, which is our intention.

As you know, we successfully returned students to in-person learning for five days a week at the end of the year. We will continue to work with the local Board of Health along with the state and CDC guidance to implement a strategy that emphasizes a “layered” approach for preventing the spread of COVID. This will include regular COVID testing, ventilation, hand-washing, distancing and masking when appropriate, staying at home when sick, and quarantining.

I anticipate more information and guidance coming from the Governor's Office and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the coming days and we will share how those documents effect our plans for the safe operations of the schools.

I wish you continued mild sunny days for the last weeks of the summer.

Regards,

Brad Crozier, Superintendent
