June 1, 2020 // Superintendent's Update
Dear SPS Community,
I am deeply saddened by the recent deadly violence against people of color and the destructive riots that grip the country. As a white male, I must acknowledge that my privilege has protected me from injustices that people of color experience. I also see that the repeated unaddressed racism and inequality over the years has brought us to the place we are today.
As a community leader, I understand issues of racial inequity are complex. At the heart of the complexity is how deeply rooted and institutionalized inequities are in our country. My hope is that as each of us reflects on the recent events, we work to show compassion for those impacted; especially the families of the people who were taken too soon. Change is needed and it requires action for it to happen. This is hard work and we all need to make a commitment to actively confront racism and inequities. I have seen great acts of community responsibility in Sudbury. I believe this is a strength that many communities continue to aspire toward. In that spirit, I would like to share a letter from the Chief of Police, Scott Nix.
We have much to do as individuals and institutions if we are to build an America for ourselves and our children with liberty and justice for all. Sudbury Public School is committed to being a safe and welcoming school district for all students, a place where each student belongs and thrives.
Remember, we are here if you need support. SPS has a robust Social-Emotional website that contains resources for supporting families.
Sincerely,
Brad Crozier,
Superintendent
