February 12, 2020 // Kick Off to K!
Sudbury Public Schools recently launched its kindergarten registration process, hosting the Kickoff to Kindergarten event for parents of eligible kindergarten-age students. On Tuesday, January 28, parents were invited to attend an informational session at the Peter Noyes Elementary School to learn more about kindergarten and how to enroll.
Over the course of a lively and informative evening, district leaders discussed registration, supports for English language learners and special education, health information, safety, the kindergarten day and more. Teachers and administrators from all four SPS elementary schools were present to meet parents and answer any questions they may have had.
“We want to ensure that the registration process for kindergarten goes as smoothly as possible for the parents in our district,” said Director of Student Services Stephanie Juriansz, who oversees Early Childhood Education. “We encourage all parents to sign their children up at their earliest convenience and submit all forms and documents in a timely manner.”
Our kindergarten team is ready to welcome any child who turns 5-years-old by September 1, 2020. Eligible students with summer birthdays are encouraged to attend rather than delay a year, and families are invited to reach out to the Early Childhood Office to discuss any concerns.
To register, parents must first complete and submit the online forms, and then drop off the printed forms and subsequent documents at the Student Services/Early Childhood Office, located at 40 Fairbank Road in Sudbury. Kindergarten registration began on Feb. 1 and will remain open until May 1. Staff will be on hand in the Student Services Office Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., during this period. SPS will also offer a special evening registration event on Thursday, March 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. Children do not need to be present at registration.
Please make note that the following records must be presented at the time of registration:
- Child’s birth certificate (original or abstract with seal)
- Child’s updated record of immunization, including: DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus), MMR (Measels, Mumps, Rubella), Hib, Polio, Hepatitis-B, Varicella, record of lead testing, TB screening and vision screening/Stereoposis
- Copy of child’s most recent physical examination
- Three forms of proof of residency (I.e., driver’s license, pay stub, utility bill, property tax bill, or lease)
- Health Record Screening Form
- Parent information form
- Preschool inventory form
Kindergarten Meet and Greet Days, an opportunity for our new students and their parents alike to become acquainted with the classroom teachers, will be held on September 2nd and 3rd. SPS will then welcome the kindergarteners to their first day of school on September 8th.
