September 6, 2019 // Message Regarding EEE Concerns
Dear SPS Families,
Sudbury Public Schools (SPS) has been working with the Town’s Board of Health regarding the threat of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus. At this time, no local case of EEE has been confirmed by the Department of Public Health, and the Town has been closely monitoring the situation. The Town will notify the community if the situation changes. You can find more information on EEE, precautions, and communications on these websites: CDC, Sudbury Board of Health, and Mass.gov
Over the course of the summer, the Sudbury Health Department has monitored mosquito traps in Sudbury and coordinated with the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project (EEMCP) to target spraying to areas with high populations of mosquitos. Information regarding the Mosquito Project and spraying schedules can be found on the EEMCP website.
This week SPS and the Health Department worked to schedule spraying at each of the school sites, which will take place next week, subject to weather conditions. As recommended in the advisories, we will also be rescheduling outdoor activities that occur between 7 PM and 6 AM. Families may wish to take additional precautions by dressing students in long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and socks, applying mosquito repellent to students’ clothing before sending them to school, or send students with mosquito repellent towelettes or non-aerosol lotions to self-apply before recess.
We will continue to coordinate with Town and State authorities and provide updates as information becomes available.
Regards,
Brad Crozier
Superintendent of Schools
