The Noyes School is in need of a new roof, its 40-year-old boiler has exceeded its useful life, and its windows are old and in need of replacement. This much-needed work has an estimated cost of $2.6 million. SPS and town leaders aggressively sought shared funding (nearly $920,900) from the Mass School Building Authority (MSBA) and on November 17, 2010, the MSBA invited Sudbury to participate in the program. This critical project requires Town approval for a debt exemption.
On December 7, 2010, the Board of Selectmen voted, due to the timing requirements imposed by the MSBA on this program, to hold a Special Town Meeting on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the LS Auditorium and a Special Election on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to determine whether the Town will approve the project.
The project was approved at town meeting last week but that only allows it to be voted on this week. In order to replace the failed roof, 40 year old boiler and inefficient and inoperable windows, the question must receive a majority of the votes cast on Tuesday.
This project was initiated and is being planned by a collaborative effort of SPS and Town's Permanent Building Committee.
If you are not able to get to the polls on Tuesday, absentee ballots are available and may be obtained by contacting the Town Clerk's office. Click HERE for information
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you.
John
A copy of the presentation and some video of the Noyes roof are now available:
